The
Great Mix-Up
In a recent
issue of Dockside, I wrote an article titled "All the
Comforts of Home". The article assured new boaters
that it is possible to have all the comforts of home right
aboard your vessel but the support systems must be in place
to accommodate the obvious power needs.
OK then,
suppose you'd like to throw a beach party and kick off the
first annual "Cruise to Frozen Margaritaville".
What do do you do? Drag an 80 pound 8D battery
ashore and fire up that under-powered 12-volt blender?
I don't think so, Tim! What about an inverter set-up to accommodate
the more powerful AC Waring bar model? Perhaps a small air-cooled
genset would be needed too. Fear not, me little hearties,
yer problems have been solved. All you really need is the
TailGator®.
When I first saw this little
jewel, an instant smile spread across my face. You can't
help but get tickled when you first behold this beautifully
made, gasoline-powered blender! Wherever we took the
TailGator®, giggles of joy, amazement and anticipation erupted
from the crowd. But that is only the beginning.
The TailGator®
comes with its own ballistic black nylon, custom designed
carrying pack. The TailGator® straps securely inside the pack
with a Velcro strap. Also inside, flanking the stored
Gator, are two sewn in nylon drawstring sleeves that will
accommodate quart bottles of spirits or mixers. Even
after the Gator, spirits and mixers are stored, there is still
room for the Margarita cups and other incidentals. A
very well made package indeed!
The
Test!
Unfortunately, I can't remember a thing about this machine
or the product test. We all had too much fun. Just
kidding! This little wonder really did what it was made
to do. No shortcomings, no excuses, no little nagging
problems! It performed flawlessly, even as we continued
to put it to the test!
The whole
unit weighs in at a mere 10 pounds. It is powered by
a 24 cc, 2 stroke "weed-eater" motor and snaps to
life with an easy pull of the starter handle. Simply
fill the generous 60oz. pitcher full of ice and your favorite
beverage, replace the cover, tickle the fuel primer button
a couple of times, set the start/run arm and pull the starter
handle. The unit comes to life and you can then control
its speed with a single finger, trigger style, throttle control.
In about 15 to 20 seconds, you simply push the "stop"
button, remove the mixer/pitcher and begin pouring the frozen
smiles.
This product
is very well designed and thought out. With the fuel
tank full, we stored it in its case, transported it to the
bat, back and forth to the shore for "tests" and
never did any fuel leak out or soil the case. One tank
of fuel will provide you with enough mixing time to seriously
impair all of your yacht club members. Materials and
workmanship are first-class and, with proper care, the TailGator®
should last you the rest of your life. I wanted it to
last the rest of my life but the chief editor make me give
it back as he mumbled something about a Swedish Bikini Team
party.
The TailGator®
is manufactured and distributed by TailGator® and retails for
$360. If it seems a bit pricey, you'll understand why
when you see it. You get what you pay for. You
